Bird feeding Posted by: Rachel Tustin Post date: 26 January 2016

At this time of year, putting out food and water on a regular basis is so important for birds. In severe weather, it is important to feed twice daily if you can: in the morning and in the early afternoon.

Birds require high energy (high fat) foods during the cold winter weather to maintain their fat reserves to survive the frosty nights.

We made bird feeders to hang in the back and front gardens of the nursery to help to feed the birds.

The children loved decorating the plastic bottles with stickers and mixing the bird seed in with the melted lard. we then poured this mixture into the bottles and placed a wooden spoon at the bottom for the birds to rest on.
